This week Dr. Heller shared some of the activities our lower elementary students are doing in their music classes. Our students in pre-school are having fun singing, moving, and playing instruments. The three-year-olds are learning about playing a steady beat on rhythm sticks and are playing the chiquitas along with songs that emphasize sound and silence. Our four-year-olds are reading and playing various rhythmic patterns on sticks. The kindergarten and first grade classes are singing new songs that that emphasize dynamics and speaking/playing various rhythms from charts and flash cards. Our second graders are learning about the instruments and melodies featured in The Carnival of the Animals. Our third graders are engaging in rhythmic reading activities and playing sticks along with musical accompaniments from the James Froseth series. Stay tuned for an update on our upper elementary classes in a future newsletter.
